SCHOOLS CAN’T DO IT ALONE – YOU CAN HELP!!

In Washington, 1 in 5 high school students do not graduate on time.  Help make a difference in a young person’s life while developing professional skills and making an impact through national service.

Communities In Schools of Federal Way (CIS) has an exciting AmeriCorps opportunity for individuals committed to improving the lives of children in our community.

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization. The mission of CIS is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  Through school-based coordination, CIS connects students and their families to critical community resources to address children’s unmet needs.  We work closely with the Federal Way School District, social service organizations and businesses to connect schools and students with the resources that facilitate academic success and the development of important life skills. CIS makes a difference for children in the schools it serves.

AmeriCorps members will serve in middle and high schools in Federal Way. Working with the CIS Site Coordinators, members will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the CIS model of integrated student supports in designated school sites. The member will coordinate with community partners and volunteers to gather resources necessary to address the academic, social and emotional needs of students who are at risk of dropping out of school. Through the coordination of individual and group interventions as well as prevention activities the member is a key player in helping students stay in school and remain on track to graduate.

ALL MEMBERS MUST SERVE 10.5 MONTHS AND 1700 HOURS (FULL TIME) WITH TERM OF SERVICE STARTING IN AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2019.

Benefits: Taxable living allowance of $14,150.00 over ten months. At the completion of service, members receive a $6,095.00 education award that can be used toward qualified educational expenses for up to 7 years. Members are eligible for health and child care benefits (child care benefits subject to income guidelines). Early applications are encouraged. As with all AmeriCorps Programs placement is contingent upon funding.
